Isn’t she glad she has the freedom to chose her own family dynamics and family size, with no interference from the State? Yeah, I know. Provacative. But I have serious issues with the government or anyone in power telling ME what I can do with my own body. Bet she does too. Just a thought.
Also, while it may be grand to have a woman in the White House, I’m thinking any random woman won’t cut it. Just because she’s a chick doesn’t mean she’s qualified to lead the nation, fercrissake. She was the mayor of a city smaller than my rural community, before she became governor a scant 2 years ago. Of a state that’s oftimes reffered to as “the Last Frontier.” Not so much a state often involved in foriegn affairs. Not so much a state involved in domestic affairs, for that matter.
Oh, other than the off-shore drilling business, that is. Apparently, she’s all for that. And for drilling in the Alaskan Wilderness. Goody, more of the same old, rape the Earth mentality that has worked so well for us in the past. Rather than take the long veiw of what is best for our country, our planet and our children, she is showing an amazing lack of foresight common to many politicians which includes the philosophy of ” we need it now, screw the future.” Thanks, Governor.
Honestly, I’m not terribly concerned that this will be a blow to my candidate of choice the way some people apparently hope. Not sure even the wavering middle (you know, the ones who can’t make up their damn minds based on FACTS) is willing to put somebody this inexperienced and troubling in office with a guy who’s older than several layers of dirt. But you never know. They elected the current guy at least once. Wizards First Rule, people.
Anyway, this was fun. Look forward to having more to say on the subject.

Ok, here are my thoughts, I like Joe Biden, have my picture with him and great memories of the time we were together visiting about friends and the future. My concern is that he is far too liberal for your conservative Mom.
I know that it rankles some that although I truly am pretty liberal on some social issues I am a fiscal conservative to the point of being almost silly about it. But, I know that the ticket with Obama and Biden will increase the level of government intervention in things like health care (which they truly don’t have a clue about since they are covered with a plan better than we could EVER wish to afford), business intervention (since neither of them have EVER run a business and had to pay all the darn taxes associated with it and meet all the regulations inflicted on us business owners they don’t have a clue about the impact their liberal, socialist ideas have on us), their narrow vision on the global world and the necessity of trying to work together and on and on.
Now, do I think McCain and Palin are the know all answer all to the whoas of our great country? Heck no, I don’t think anyone is. But, when we see someone that wants to work with the other party, someone that isn’t bogged down with Washington dirty secrets (and the press certainly would have blasted them all over the front page if there were any to tell on McCain) and someone that said in his acceptance speech that he would veto any bill that came across his desk with pork barrel (earmarked) items then I think it is time that we try to give someone that isn’t afraid to say NO to something so stupid a chance.
Now, we are never going to agree on politics, I usually don’t even discuss it with you because we won’t agree, but I wanted to put my thoughts out there knowing that you and I will love each other regardless of our political affiliations. (Nice way of saying…don’t take my head off LOL)

Mom-
I wanted to tell you that first, I am grateful for your post and your insight. I understand exactly what you are saying. I don’t completely agree (surprise! lol) but the fiscal issues mean something different to me than they do to you, for a lot of reasons. I am basically fiscally conservative too, I just believe the left will do at least as good a job as the right…frankly better, but benefit of the doubt & all that.
I believe John Mcain is too old, has sold out his bipartisan ideals, and has shown an amazing lack of judgment and foresight in his choice of a running mate. That said, I still like him. But he has run a far meaner campaign than his opponent, and that bothers me.
His running mate is very funny, in a snarky, sarcastic way, and I enjoyed her speech on that level. But where I can be open about the best way to run a country financially, I am not willing to give up any more of my civil liberties than I already must. And from my perspective, a far right agenda socially terrifies me. I am exactly what I am…liberal, conservative, midwestern, complicated, just like you & sissy, and the respect and understanding is always there. I love you

What are the top three issues we should be concerned with? Both sides are skewed to their voter base with a bit of bipartisanship thrown in to help get votes from the other side. So, what are the three most important issues we should be concerned with?
I may be way off base but my guess is that the issues are close on both sides of the fence but the approach is where we differ.
G,
